MEMORY LANE FOR SALE

What's with people and their collectibles? Baseball cards, cars, lead soldiers, muskets, and, yes, furniture! “I love furniture” he always says and he's the real deal. He is head over heels in love with furniture, and it's not just a passing phase. You’ve heard of the Burger King? “He is The Furniture King”...a.k.a. Mark O'Connor. He's been collecting since he was a kid, and now he's got entire buildings filled with the stuff. And the craziest part? He's still buying, selling, and storing it. He's got a genuine love for the furniture business, and it's clear it's been his passion since he was a kid working with his family's business. The best part, he says, "you can love it for awhile or forever, but when you are ready to let go…to the auction block these precious items can go and replace them with money to create more memories or enhance your life in different ways."

When he lived home with his parents, his room was upstairs. He had the entire top floor to himself. He set up his room to be a shop. When you listen to him talk about it his face lights up and you can just feel all that enthusiasm beaming out all around him. What fun for a kid whose dad bought all the rides from Storytown....and brought them home! Just imagine how much fun that was! How about this....having a wagon auction with life-size horses including a hearse wagon with glass sides for viewing with life-size horses. To this day, the Altamont Fairground houses these heirlooms. We had an elephant auction...(no..no live elephants, silly)..1000's of elephants of all sizes and material..,marble, metal, wood, stone...Certainly not a boring day in the life.

The point is that you get a lot of mileage out of the past...stories of younger years, the good, the bad, the ugly. When you think about all the collectibles and all the things you hang onto whether they're material things or not, there's a time when you look back and reflect. You then make your decisions to keep them a bit longer or reminisce with those memories again (for one reason or another) or, of course, you know you've run the course and you're ready to pass on those things to the highest bidder,, that are now a chapter in your book. ..going once, going twice....SOLD!

So here's the deal: the past is like a never-ending treasure trove of crazy stories, and let's be real, who doesn't

love a good trip down memory lane?  You've got your collectibles, your momentos, (and all that jazz) and at some point, you've got to decide whether or not to hold on a bit longer or pass it on. Do you keep reliving the glory days or do you cash in, move on and create new experiences and memories. There is still a lot of living to do...so clean out your garages, attics, storage bins and houses...and start living "la vida loca"! Just remember, we do cleanouts and liquidations so give us a call or send us a text...

...you may get rid of the "treasures"...but you'll always have the memories!

See you at the auction!
